Bacterial Vaginal Infection An Itching Of Intense Proportions
By Jeff Austin
If you are a female there is no doubt that at some point in your life you have suffered from a bacterial vaginal infection. This infection may also be known as vaginitis, candida candidiasis, or just a plain yeast infection. While there may be other medical names for this particular vaginal infection the bottom line simply is that this type of infection can cause itching of intense proportions. Typically it is the vaginal itching associated with a bacterial vaginal infection that will drive most patients to seek care or from their healthcare provider. The key is seeking help before the itching simply drives you insane.

Well an itching is one of the primary symptoms of a bacterial vaginal infection there are numerous other symptoms that one should consider as well. Other symptoms such as painful sexual intercourse, a burning sensation, vaginal discharge, a rash, or even simply a generalized irritation of the vagina are all possible symptoms that may be associated with this type of infection. Frankly if the itching is not enough to drive you to seek care the combination of the other symptoms that may appear are definitely enough to cause you to seek help from your physician. Waiting for this sort of infection to clear up on its own is simply not an option. A bacterial vaginal infection just will not clear without antibiotic treatment obtain from your physician.

Here's the issue, and one that if you are of the female gender that you must remember throughout your life, unfortunately you are going to have to deal with the bacterial vaginal infection at least until you can get the medication are required to resolve it.

Another important thing to remember if you are suffering from a yeast infection is that even though you may not be experiencing painful intercourse it is best to abstain from sexual activity until you are well on the road to recovery. While a yeast infection is not classified by the medical community as a sexually transmitted disease prints (STD) this infection certainly can be transmitted from one partner to another during sexual activity. So even though you yourself are irritated and aggravated that you have to deal with the bacterial yeast infection, it certainly doesn't mean that you should take the chance of passing it on to your partner. While it is understandable that a healthy sex life is an important part of any happy relationship, it is important to remember that if you have a yeast infection you certainly can pass it on to your partner. If your partner is male a yeast infection would present itself as a penile yeast infection which must also be treated by a physician. Again, it is best to wait until you are well down the road of recovery until you choose to engage in sexual activity again.

A yeast infection may also be recurrent. It is important to note that even though you may have followed your health care provider's instructions to a tee, your initial yeast infection has a chance of re-occurrence which would require subsequent treatment. Current research supports the fact that many of the 75% of women who suffer with a bacterial vaginal infection during their lifetime will also suffer from recurrent bacterial vaginal infection

The good news for women today is that most bacterial vaginal infections can be easily treated without too much bother or fuss. In fact there are many over-the-counter treatments available to women today that weren't even available over the counter a decade ago. However if a yeast infection proves to be hardheaded it typically will take a combination of treatment efforts from your healthcare provider along with strict preventative measures in an effort to clear up the initial infection as well as avoid a recurring bacterial infection.

The preferred course of treatment for women who are dealing with a bacterial vaginal infection are prescription medications obtained from your physician. However there are many women that self medicate with over-the-counter treatment options as well as many women who seek alternative therapies or old-fashioned home remedies in order to cure a current yeast infection.

One popular alternative therapy and home treatment is that of applying natural unsweetened yogurt to the vaginal area. This is one method of treatment that has its share of believers. This home remedy has proven to be a useful treatment when attempting to manage a bacterial infection. However it is critically important that you initially seek treatment from your healthcare provider to verify the presence of a bacterial yeast infection. This is important as vaginal itching can also be caused by many other reasons.

Bacterial yeast infections typically occur in the body whenever there is an imbalance. For this reason it is important that you attempt to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Yeast infections tend to occur and even worsen when the delicate balance of the vagina is out of whack. Products such as the vaginal douches are very well-known for disturbing the protective balance of good bacteria.

Yes, a bacterial yeast infection may be a common occurrence in the life of many females. However there are many treatment options available in both over-the-counter and through your healthcare provider that can help you get the relief that you seek.
